Can we chat even after merging the lead and the user through the API call?

I am trying to merge the lead and user having the same mail-id, I don't want the user to log in to the site as it will not serve any purpose, we are using a mobile app for that part.

 

However, the issue I am running into is as soon as I call the API to merge the lead and the user, the service user (on the website - lead) is not able to chat or send any messages, is there any way to continue talking even after merging them?

 

Is there any way to achieve this without losing the ability to chat after the merge?

This is expected behaviour of the merge API. Merging a lead into a user essentially deletes the lead profile, and stores its info on the user profile. If you want to keep the lead, it would be best to keep a duplicate profile or just delete the user profile here. Otherwise, I'd suggest logging them in as a user on the mobile app to resume chatting to them.
