Why can't I hear the notification sounds?

I have browser notifications turned on for Intercom, but I don't hear the notification sound/noise. What's going on?

If you're using Chrome as your browser, it's likely that you need to allow sounds in your Chrome settings.

This did not work for me.  I’m using:

Apple M2 - Ventura 13.3.1

Chrome 113.0.5672.126 (Official Build) (arm64)

Safari 16.4

Firefox 113.0.2

 

I can however receive sound notification for chats that are assigned to me.  It’s only the initial notification for unassigned chats that others on my team can hear, but not myself.
