There is no root 'companies' property returned, it's 'data'.

And the type that comes back in the root properties is 'list', not companies.

You're definitely correct here, I just did some testing and see the same thing. Thank you for flagging, I'm wondering if we made any recent changes. I'm going to flag this with the team and get it updated.
