From the documentation it seems to only be supported on messenger apps and not inbox. If this is the case, are there any plans for it to be supported on inbox apps too any time soon?

At the moment Sheets functionality is only available in Messenger apps. I'd be happy to flag this with the team as a feature request on your behalf! While I don't have an eta on this being implemented, when we release new features we'll announce it on the Product Changes page. 💡
