Why do I need to set up oAuth when my app is going to be private?

All Messenger Apps need to be created with oAuth permissions, regardless of whether they’re public or private.

This is because oAuth gives greater granularity over the permissions the app has within your Intercom workspace. With oAuth, you know exactly what your app can and can’t do, should anything go wrong.
