Is there data on what is more engaging - Large message (popup that darkens the screen) or small message (on the side and less intrusive)?

This may depend on the content you are sending out to users-- every use case is unique! We have this great article that goes into detail about how to set up Chats and Posts for maximum impact. That should be helpful in giving more context around when it is best to use different message types (and sizes).
