Hi, I’m working with a client that wants to use Intercom to send push notifications.
Their users are connected to one another, ie. user x is connected to user y, but user y could be connected to user a, b & x.

Can you help with these questions:

  • Is it possible to target specific users for push notifications?
  • Are push notifications sent to a user when they trigger an event if no audience is configured?
  • Are Intercom push notifications only designed for generic groups of users (audiences?)

Hi @Warren McInnes 👋 Eden from the support engineer team here.

You can target a push notification to specific users by specifying their email address or other attributes that can be used to identify the users, like so:

If you have no audience rules in place for a push notification, the push notification will sent to all users that have push enabled within your workspace. If you have push notifications being triggered based on an event being triggered, but have no audience rules in place, any users that have push enabled will receive the notification as long as they trigger the event.

The way that you target push notifications to the users in your workspace would be based on your own unique use case-- you can target push notifications to segments of users, as well as individual users. You can read more about push notification here👍
