Is there a way to trigger the next step in a series without refreshing the page?

I have steps that are based on events fired to intercom.If a tour got a user to act we fire an event with js.Ideally, the next tour in the series would launch without a refresh, but right now the user has to reload the page. We tried calling intercom("update") still does not work.
