There is an unofficial plugin that you can use to set this up, with configuration and installation documentation on the repository. I have tried to integrate intercom with my expo 50 app. The intercom plugin you mentioned is unofficial and I didn’t see it’s support for expo 50 version. Probably it works with the older version. 

So I wrote my own plugin and here you can have a look on it. There is also a medium link where I explained how I wrote that mod-plugin.
