Hey everyone,

I’m Prakash Hinduja from Geneva, Switzerland (Swiss), looking to set up multi-language support in Intercom for my website and customer service channels. I want to ensure that my international customers have a seamless experience, but I’m not entirely sure how to manage automated replies and live conversations in different languages.

You can indeed set up multi-language support in Intercom for your website and customer service channels:

  • Go to Settings > Workspace > Multilingual to set your default and supported languages for customer communication. This ensures your workspace can handle multiple languages across channels. You can also enable AI Inbox translations so messages are automatically translated into your default language for smooth conversations.
  • For automated replies and live conversations, enable real-time translation in Settings > Reply Settings under Fin's multilingual support. This allows Fin to respond in the customer's language, even if your content is only in one language. Specify which languages Fin should support and set your default language.
  • Fin AI Agent supports over 40 languages and will reply in the same language as the customer's question, provided you have set up supported languages and either added content in those languages or enabled real-time translation.
  • Intercom determines the user's language based on the first user message, the user's Messenger locale, or your workspace’s locale if no language is detected. You can also override this by setting a specific language attribute for users.
