How can conversation data, along with bulk attachments, be exported from the Help Desk?

@Helga Kruger  Are you looking to export all conversations or just an individual one?

I’ll share a quote from the Export Conversations Data article on Intercom, I couldn’t confirm if attachments are included from the article details but hopefully someone from the team could add more insight on that part.

It looks like you can export a conversation individually without the API but if you want to export in bulk you’ll maybe need the API or a 3rd party tool according to the snippet below but I did see this tool to export JSON to Amazon Web Services and it does have an Include Attachments toggle.

Hope this helps!

Article excerpt:

“It's not currently possible to download a CSV file of all your conversation content in Intercom. You can download them individually by clicking on the three dots on the top right corner of a conversation.

To export conversation content in bulk, you need to use our Conversations API to extract full conversations. First list the conversations, and then use GET for individual conversation ID's.”

Hi @Helga Kruger

I’ve already answered a question on a similar topic, but here’s a more specific guide for exporting conversation data, including bulk attachments, using Help Desk Migration:

Using Help Desk Migration:

  1. Log into the Migration Wizard and select Intercom as the source platform.
  2. Choose the workspace you want to export conversations from.
  3. Select Conversations as the data type to migrate.
  4. During field mapping, you can choose additional data like agents, contacts, companies, KB records, etc.
  5. Run a Demo Migration to preview the exported data and make sure everything is in the right format.
  6. You can request customization if you have any specific requirements.

Tips for the migration:

  • You can choose to export conversations chronologically, starting with the most recent records.
  • If needed, add tags during the mapping step to make it easier to organize in the target platform.
  • For a full extract, simply inform the support team that you want to export all conversations, and they will guide you through the necessary steps.

You can usually export conversation data along with bulk attachments from most help desk platforms through their admin panel or export settings. Look for options like "Data Export" or "Ticket Export"—they often let you download entire conversations in formats like CSV or JSON, and some tools also include attachments as a ZIP file. If you're using a specific platform like Zendesk, Freshdesk, or Help Scout, the exact steps may vary, so it's a good idea to check their documentation or support as well.

Hope this helps!
