Will my API token reset when changing email address?

Hi!

One of our customers uses Intercom, and in order to create a pipeline between our backend and their order processing workflow, we created an API account in Intercom which we set to our company’s email. The customer now wants to have full control of the API account, without having to fiddle with changing the API token.

Will the API token remain functional if the API account’s email is changed?

Thanks!

Hey @antebante

The API access token is tied to the workspace and that specific teammate account, not to the email address itself. Changing the email on the API account will not automatically invalidate the existing token. It will keep working as long as that teammate remains active and their permissions still allow API access (the token would only stop working if it’s explicitly revoked/regenerated or the teammate is deactivated or loses the relevant permissions).

So you can safely update the API account’s email to your customer’s address without having to change the token. If you ever want to rotate it for security reasons in future, that can be done separately by regenerating the token and updating your integration to use the new value.
