Guidance for bringing data into intercom for FIN

One thing we have been looking to do for a while is give fin access to simple status lookups for policies where payment is pending. The issue we are currently facing is that payment takes 3-5 business days to post on our platform (no clue why) however i have access to a running PowerBI report from accounting that contains policy numbers and also flags when a payment has been submitted almost immediately. the flags operate as a simple yes/no and would greatly decrease the amount of inquiries we get about payment status. essentially all of our workflows require that the retailer give us the policy number up front so matching wouldnt be a big problem. unfortunately our development team is spread thin so im really just trying to hack together a solution as proof of concept that we can get fin access to this data. ive done some work with data connectors successfully but this isnt in my wheelhouse. im wondering if theres any sort of integration/apps in intercom that could make my life easier in building this. 

 

Key details:

  • Policy number is required in our workflows and can be used as a reliable match key.

  • The Power BI dataset refreshes hourly.

  • For POC purposes, we’re comfortable with 1–2 syncs per workday (manual or scheduled).

  • We only need simple status attributes (e.g., payment submitted flag, balance due, last posted payment date, etc.).

  • This is read-only; no write-back to source systems.

What we’re trying to determine:

  1. Best architecture for syncing data from a Power BI dataset (or underlying SQL source) into Intercom.

  2. Whether tools like SeekWell (SQL → Intercom), Zapier/Make, or a lightweight middleware/API layer are most appropriate.

  3. Best practice for matching on a custom attribute (policy number) at the Contact or Company level.

  4. How others have handled near-real-time financial status lookups inside Fin.

We’re open to engaging a contractor to help design and implement this POC and then advise on productionizing it. If you’ve implemented something similar or have experience building Fin-integrated data sync pipelines, I’d love to connect.
