Problem Statement
Currently, when users sort data in a table chart within an Intercom report by clicking a column header, the sorting preference is not saved as part of the report configuration. Instead, it is temporarily stored in the browser session.
As a result, when users refresh or reopen a saved report, the table reverts to its default sorting order, requiring them to manually reapply their preferred sorting each time.
Expected Behaviour / Feature Request
Allow users to save their preferred sorting configuration (e.g. column and sort direction: ascending or descending) as part of the saved report settings.
The sorting preference should persist when users:
-
Save or update a report.
-
Navigate away from and reopen a saved report.
-
Refresh the report page.
-
Share the report with other team members, ideally retaining the same default sorting configuration.
Business Impact
This limitation creates unnecessary repetitive work for users who regularly monitor reports and rely on specific data ordering to analyse performance, identify trends, or prioritise records.
For teams that frequently use table charts for operational reporting, having to manually reapply sorting preferences every time reduces reporting efficiency and creates an inconsistent viewing experience.
Suggested Improvement
Introduce persistent table sorting settings within saved reports, allowing users to define a default sort column and direction. This would make reports more consistent, easier to revisit, and more useful for ongoing performance monitoring.
