I've found this question I had a few times on this platform and I can't wrap my head around the fact that this is not possible. I think this is very basic Support platform functionality.

The answer from Intercom is; Use the REST API.

This is not a workable answer for many people, so I suggest just adding a “+ Create new company” button in the Contacts section:

Thanks for your consideration :)

Hey @bosbeest !

Michaela from the support team here.

There is a roundabout way to create a new company in the Intercom UI. If you go to a user profile who doesn’t have a company, you can type in the new company name in the “company name” attribute under the qualification on the users profile and you will see it creates the company:

If you click on the company name now appearing at the top of the users profile, it will bring you to that company:

I agree that there should be an easier way to create new companies though! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your request.

I don’t know if this is the same request but I’d like the ability to juts manually associate companies from my known/ verified company list - let me know if I should submit a separate request

“If you click on the company name now appearing at the top of the users profile, it will bring you to that company”

If you click it you will find that the company doesn’t exist because the data hasn’t propagated.

If you search for it it doesn’t exist.

If you try to add the same company to another user, it doesn’t exist. If you add it and say “create company” the system fails silently and creates a dupe.

If you want to bulk add users (say by finding them in search) - you can’t.

If you want users to be automatically added based on email domain - you can’t.

If you delete a company dupe which was erroneously added because of caching - it is still cached so you don’t know what state things are in and risk creating more of a mess.

If you start adding a company and a dropdown appears and you press arrow key down - instead of selecting from the dropdown the interface asks if you want to add a company - so don’t try to move fast.

Managing users and their company relation is honestly awful in intercom and constantly keeping this updated is full time employment. Some sane defaults that can be set on entity creation along with solving caching would lift this immensely,

I don’t understand how anyone is using this aspect of intercom effectively in a production environment. “Contacts” seems like an afterthought.

@Seth Ritz - You’re asking the same as far as I understand. Create the company and make sure you wait 10 minutes. After that you can add it to the user like @Michaela Hone describes.
