It appears in Checklists, you can choose whether to launch URLs in the same browser tab or a new tab. I don't see that same option for links in Posts and Chats. We have a single page app and it's important for us to provide links to different areas of the app without loading each in a new window.

For support, our agents often guide customers how to update their billing info (/admin/billing) or where to upload messages (/admin/messages). It would be extremely valuable to able to send links to these areas in the app w/o loading new windows.

The exact same thing applies to proactive support where we want to guide new users to different features without opening the app in a bunch of windows.

Hi @Bryan Lipson

Jennifer here from Customer Support 😊

Can you elaborate on why this would be useful via Outbound content?

We’d use it for outbound messages in the same way.

During trial and onboarding, we want automated in-app messages and banners that guide users to specific features.

For example:

  • Have you tried Messaging? Give it a try (/messaging)
  • Create your own custom mix station (/mix-stations)
  • I see you haven’t added any stations Give it a try (/music-stations)
  • Invite your team (/admin/users)

@Jennifer K  Without this ability, how are other Intercom customers directing users via outbound messages?

  • Let’s say a retailer wants a banner to announce a sale on bicycles. You’d want to guide them to the bicycles category page.
  • Or restaurant wants to promote “Taco Tuesday” specials. You’d want to guide them to the Taco Tuesday menu.
  • Or a software platform want’s the guide users to a new feature. You’d want to guide them to that new feature setup screen.

Are people just popping new tabs for all these scenarios?

I’ve just come across this and I was very surprised it’s not possible with Intercom to open links without opening a new tab. From a UX point of view it’s quite bad that we send a message (either in a support conversation or an automated onboarding message) and want to link to a certain page of our app, but the link opens in a new tab instead of just allowing the application to navigate to the relevant page.
