If I'm setting up a custom bot from new conversations for example, should I have a Task bot in place as well? I get really confused in regards to this

The task bot is something that is applicable for all inbound conversations meaning the customer needs to start the conversation.

 

so it differs a little bit from the Custom Bot where you actually message the lead through a popup

 

I would start with the task bot, for inbound conversations in the screenshot below you can see what you can change

The custom bot is for outbound messaging. something that "pops up" when the client opens a specific URL or presses a specific button,
